Kursk Incursion: Ukraine’s Attempt to Stabilize the Front
On 7 August 2024, Ukraine launched an attack on the region surrounding the Russian city of Kursk in an attempt to draw Russian forces to the area in order to stabilise the eastern front after months of relentless Russian attacks and small, piecemeal advances. Targeting the border region and the surrounding area which was defended primarily by border guards and underprepared Russian forces (most likely conscript forces) has allowed the Ukrainian army to flood the pocket with soldiers and armored vehicles. This attack has drawn condemnation from Russian military personnel and social media who have been asking why the region was so underprepared to face an attack.
