Episode 3: War and Our Community
War effects communities directly, indirectly, and has lasting effects on our society. Here in the United States, the burden of war has been shouldered by a very small portion of the population since World War II ended. I'm grateful we can have an all-volunteer force and leverage our expert military training and unmanned systems to keep our personnel needs low. However, a lot of us have felt very out of place as we transition into civilian life back home, struggling to reinvent ourselves after we leave military service. We have a lot of veterans that started their military career right in the middle of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), deploying multiple times between Iraq and Afghanistan. Veterans deserve to be supported by our communities and by our government to ensure they have the best chance of success. Here are just a few resources Veterans can use: Crisis and Emergency Resources Military OneSource: 1-800-342-9647 (24/7 counseling and support) NVF Lifeline for Vets: 1-888-777-4443 VA Suicide Hotline: 1-800-273-8255 National Suicide Hotline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) Stop Soldier Suicide: 1-800-273-8255 #1 Housing and Homelessness Resources VASH Program: HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program SSVF: Supportive Services for Veteran Families program Homeless Veteran Stand Downs: events providing supplies and services PATH (People Assisting the Homeless): supportive services for homeless veterans National Coalition for Homeless Veterans: resource and technical assistance center Employment and Education Resources VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Home: vocational rehabilitation and employment services VA Employment Programs for Homeless Veterans: employment assistance American Job Centers: employment and training opportunities National Veterans Foundation Job Board: job listings Work for Warriors (Guard and Reserve): job postings and unit vacancies Small Business (SBA Veteran & Disabled Veterans): resources for starting and growing small businesses

Jack's civilian career has spanned the aviation, aerospace, UAS, and defense markets, strongly focusing on developing emerging technologies to support the DoD, NATO, and commercial customers. Jack is a licensed, instrument-rated private pilot and commercial UAS pilot. Jack enjoys partnering with the Department of Defense and seeking out innovative technologies that can support the survivability and lethality of our warfighters who are currently deployed in support of our Nation's Defense Strategy, bringing meaningful capabilities to our men and women on the front lines. He is also passionate about supporting the Veteran community through work with non-profits like Helmets to Hardhats, Healing4Heroes, and the Force Recon Association. "I got into making videos last January (a year ago) both as a creative outlet and to learn how to produce my own multimedia. It's been really fun and has benefited my professional career as a byproduct."
